In that post, I explained the role of the integration components; these are a set of drivers/services that enlighten the guest OS, enabling it to avail of the underlying services and performance that the hypervisor makes available to it.The process of deploying updated integration services into a Windows guest after general availability was tiresome. The first early preview version (Technical Preview) became available on 1 October 2014 together with the first technical preview of System Center.Microsoft announced a new installation option, Nano Server, which offers a minimal-footprint headless version of Windows Server.Starting with the new feature release of Windows Server, version 1709, Nano Server can only be installed inside a container host.Microsoft has been reorganized by Satya Nadella, putting the Server and System Center teams together.

It was reported that Microsoft was working with Qualcomm Centriq and Cavium Thunder X2 chips. The second option was to use System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).This process allowed you to update all of your machines at once (or in batches), with the obligatory reboot.According to James Vincent of The Verge, this decision endangers Intel's dominance of the server CPU market.A public beta version of Windows Server 2016 (then still called v Next) branded as "Windows Server Technical Preview" was released on 1 October 2014; the technical preview builds are aimed toward enterprise users.

If you really need to run these legacy machines on a modern hypervisor, then you can use the VMGuest. While it won’t be supported, it will kind-of work, but I wouldn’t bet my house on the machines being reliable.
