Consolidating data warehouses
Data consolidation involves the collection of a vast amount of data or information from several networked servers, usually belonging to a company, organization or enterprise.
Data consolidation is actually one of three data integration techniques in use today.
The third data integration technique, data consolidation, consists of two technologies: Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) and Extract, Load and Transform (ELT), which will be discussed later in this lesson.
When completed, the transformed data are combined into a single record within a consolidated database and made available to the user.
Extract, Load, and Transform (ELT) is the latest technology and takes advantage of new advances in data processing and storage techniques.
In our photography business example, ELT extracts the applicable data and places all of our customer information into tables, which will eventually be the consolidated data's final storage location.
Here the consolidation is executed in the destination database.Anyone can earn credit-by-exam regardless of age or education level.
